“I am very patient, understanding, and I love children! If I was asked to describe in one sentence the reason I have chosen to be in the Mercer Island Domestic Care profession over any other it, would have to be because I love children. I have been serving in some form of childcare experience for over 10 years and can honestly say I love what I do! I feel the children are little people who need to be cared for. My goal as a Nanny is to help the children develop into educated, talented and respectful young adults. I am willing to do housekeeping that includes cleaning up after children, preparing the children’s meals, transporting the children to and from school or activities, children’s laundry, helping children with homework, and light cleaning. If I had to describe myself in five adjectives I would say that I am fun, loving, caring, understanding, and patient. Activities that I would like to incorporate in the daily plan for the family I care for would include reading and going to parks and museums. Throughout these four years, Helen has provided exemplary childcare for my now eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son! ‘Childcare’ is, however, an inadequate word for the role Helen has played in our lives. She has been a second mother and another right hand. One of Helen's most valuable assets is her reliability. She has always arrived on time and, in her four years with us, despite our willingness to give her paid sick time, she used only one sick day. We were often less reliable - but if we arrived late because of traffic, or bad weather, Helen was always there with a smile and reassuring us that we should just get home safely! Helen has also been extremely flexible. Both of us work full time, and I am a full time doctoral student. If we needed her to arrive a little bit early, or to stay a little bit late, she was always ready to accommodate us if it was at all possible. In other ways, Helen has also always gone above and beyond what was expected of her. She has always been ready to help out around the house as a member of the family. If something needs doing, and she has time, Helen does it. Laundry, dishes, vacuuming - it is a treat to come home and find our list of chores shortened significantly by the things that Helen did for us during her day! Helen's greatest gift, though, is her warmth and generosity of spirit. My son was just about a year old when Helen started with us. Her patience, love, and laughter have surrounded him for the past four years. Although my daughter was in school most of the day, and only saw Helen in the mornings and afternoons, she is as attached to Helen as my son is. If my son had not begun school full-time, Helen would still be a full-time member of our family. As it is, she is still a part of our family. Through her devotion and love, she has earned it! There is no greater gift to us as parents than knowing that our children are in the hands of someone who is loving them and caring for them as well as we could do ourselves. We cannot recommend Helen highly enough as a Mercer Island Domestic Care nanny!”
